There are several different Saami dialects and languages with different degrees of mutual intelligibility and a lot of overlap. I wrote to the translator to ask which dialect he used to translate the text and he responded with some interesting information that would have made Professor Tolkien proud.

The main text is standard Lule Saami. However, in line with Tolkien's style of giving each of the peoples a distinct way of speaking, there are some differences between the characters.

The dwarves speak a form that is much closer to North Saami, while Beorn speaks an idiosyncratic dialect mostly associated with Pite Saami.

As a linguistic note based on the classification scheme in Glottolog (5.2), Lule Saami, North Saami, and Pite Saami are more closely related to each other than they are to other forms of Saami, and there is a higher level of mutual intelligibility amongst them.
